In 2014, the SF Chronicle’s Michael Bauer selected Comal’s roast turkey as one of his Top 10 Dishes from the Top 100 Bay Area restaurants, noting:
“I can’t think of a dish in the past year that’s captured — and held — my attention as solidly as the roast turkey at this Mexican restaurant in Berkeley. Maybe I’m trying to replace the chaotic and not always wonderful Thanksgivings at home with this idealized bird, but for whatever reason the fact remains that it’s magnificent.”
This year, for the first time, we are offering a dozen Oaxaca-inspired turkey dinners for Thanksgiving. Each dinner is designed to serve 10-12 people in your home and consists of:
* One 10-12 lb Achiote-rubbed Organic Roasted Turkey – carved and ready to be served – comes with generous amounts of Comal’s three classic Oaxacan moles: Negro, Amarillo and Coloradito
* Six Vegetarian Tamales w/sweet potato, poblano chiles
* Braised Collard Greens w/smoked bacon and habanero chiles
* Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Butternut Squash w/pepitas and chile arbol
* Green Rice
* Black Beans
* Corn Tortillas
Everything is pre-cooked and ready to be warmed up in your oven. Detailed instructions will be provided, but in general it couldn’t be easier! Orders must be picked up at Comal between 12-4pm on Wednesday, November 21st. Only a dozen dinners will be offered. The dinner costs $225.
To place an order, visit our Online Menu. Choose “Pickup” and then set the pickup time for sometime between 12-4pm on November 21st. Then click “Start Your Order”. From there, scroll down to the bottom of the online menu and you’ll see Thanksgiving Dinner. Click that option and proceed to place your order. Please include your name, a contact number and your preferred pickup time in the Special Requests section.
