Fire Pit!

At long last, our fire pit is up and running.  And it’s a beauty – custom fabricated by Kyle Reicher and his team of able hands at Ferrous Studios in nearby Richmond.  Ferrous has been a fixture at Comal from the early going.  Along the way, they’ve built the custom steel windows and doors, the bar stools, the bases for our community tables, the truss system for our covered patio, the patio exit gate and even our bathroom towel holders.

In the coming days we’ll be adding some seating in the form of salvaged redwood log stools around the pit.  We’re also working on adding heaters for the picnic tables and some string lights as well.

Recent Press

We’ve received some good press recently.  Most notable was a three star review from Michael Bauer, longtime SF Chronicle restaurant critic.

A week later, Señor Bauer shared Comal chef Matt Gandin’s recipe for Albondigas en Adobo.

Over in the East Bay, Diablo magazine ran an extended feature on tacos that included an in-depth look at Comal’s Carne Asada tacos as well as our Guacamole

Comal was also recently included in Zagat’s “Bay Area’s 10 Hottest Restaurants” and SF Eater’s “Heat Map: Where to Eat Right Now” llst – In both cases Comal was the only East Bay restaurant on the list.

Gift Cards

We are now offering two options for Gift Cards – the first is the old fashioned variety, available only in person at Comal.  We are also offering online Gift Cards on our website through Treatful – simply click on the Gift Cards link, choose the amount of the gift and take it from there.  You can also click through to Treatful from our Facebook page.

Facebook / Twitter

Speaking of Facebook, please know that we update our Facebook site and Twitter feed on a nearly daily basis, sometimes several times a day. Updates include new menu items, photos, interesting links, playlist info and much more.  Eventually we hope to roll much of this content into a blog section on our website as well, but for now we encourage you to follow us on Twitter or “like” us on Facebook (or both) to keep abreast of the latest from Comal.
